Amy Kennedy

In my work, fine, paper-thin leaves of clay-glaze material are assembled to form layered objects. Working with delicacy and movement, I use these flowing layers like the opening pages of a book or fluttering folds of fabric to create a windblown or whirlpool effect. The gentle softening that occurs during firing enhances this sense of energy, allowing the sculptures to hover, tilt or extend, as if once animated.

This collection for Blanc explores a quiet energy. The word Blanc is associated with whiteness, and much of my work sits within a white or near-white palette. I have found that reducing colour opens greater potential for the interplay of light, shadow, space and texture. Subtlety becomes the focus.

I aspire to create work that feels simultaneously made and found, work that invites wonder in those who encounter it.
