DREAMING IN COLOUR

Kaz Shirley returns! Her last exhibition was ‘Balance’ in 2019 and in the six-year hiatus, Kaz has worked tirelessly in the creative sector bringing the much-loved Bellarine Art Trail to the region, taking much of her energy.

We are all incredibly grateful to Kaz for this fixture on the arts calendar each Cup Weekend. Now that Kaz has stepped back from driving this event we are thrilled to welcome Kaz herself back to painting in her new solo exhibition, ‘Dreaming in Colour’.

A series full of joy and appreciation of the little things each day in life, ‘Dreaming in Colour’ opens on Saturday 10th January and runs until the 1st of February 2026.

Bio

Kaz Shirley is a self-taught abstract artist who draws on influences from an early interest in craft, textiles, quilt making, and ceramics.  As a result, her current abstract works exhibit a passion for representing vivid colour, texture and form.

She enjoys the challenge of designing and producing precision pieces, which often take weeks to complete. At other times she likes to create in a completely dynamic way, often bringing surprising results.

Kaz has found that painting, like any passion in life, is a journey of self-discovery and evolution.

“I love a slow painting, one that develops over weeks or months to completion. Each layer is considered, intricate, and deliberate – like solving a jigsaw where every piece belongs somewhere but finding the where is the challenge and the enjoyment. When a painting finally comes together, I know it intimately.

When I’m deep in the process, I dream about my work. I dream in colour – vivid, bold, and full of movement. I dream of shapes and mark-making, of how they fit together to create something alive.

This, to me, is the joy of creating: to imagine, to explore, and to bring those dreams into the world. I hope you feel that same energy and delight as you experience this exhibition.”
