ELEMENTS – CERAMICS

EARTH, FIRE, AIR & WATER

A Group Exhibition of Ceramics

“As part of Geelong Design Week Open Studios Event we celebrate the theme taur, which means belonging in local Wadawurrung language.  Geelong Design Week will celebrate all things connecting us to people and places and the role design can play in enhancing our sense and lived experience of belonging.”

We welcome Bridget Foley

Bridget has been a full time studio potter since 2014, producing tableware and exhibition work. She has exhibited in numerous Group Exhibitions and been a finalist multiple times, including for the Manningham Victorian Ceramic Award, the Victorian Craft Award, Stanthorpe Art Prize and the Klytie Pate Award. Bridget was the Winner of the Merit Acquisition Award for “Shifting Sands” at Manningham in 2017. She recently had her first Solo Exhibition at CLAD Gallery, Bendigo Pottery, 2021-2022.

Bridget keenly missed “belonging” to Point Lonsdale when locked down in Melbourne in 2021. As a result she developed a body of work in response to the memories and feel of the Point Lonsdale sky, ocean, salt, shoreline, sand and rocks, all with unique glazes produced during this time. A beautiful collection not to be missed.

Kirsty Manger presents a AIR- CONTOUR Series of Jugs and Vessels responding to the rapidly eroding coastline of South East Victoria, the WATER-OCEAN Series inspired by the inter-tidal zone that is ever-changing and AIR-SILHOUETTE Series to draw attention the the striking profiles of the limestone cliff layers of the Surf Coast.

Alice Morgan explores further forms in her series of popular stoneware that takes the flora of the Bellarine Peninsula, -the Yellow Gums and Eucalypts, as inspiration in her lines and pattern making.

Karen Steenbergen extends herself with her glazes and porcelain work celebrating the OCEANS, SEASCAPE and stoneware vessels progressing her study of bark colours and patterns in the local GUM TREES.

‘We belong to, are part of, and are continuously inspired by the ELEMENTS of the region. We must also take care of these elements with respect.’

Please note this Exhibition is on the second floor, accessible only by the stairs. We will happily bring works down to you if access is an issue, just ask.
