About the Hive

The Hive Ocean Grove brings together a unique mix of Bronze sculpture, paintings, handcrafted furniture, and ceramics made by both established and emerging artists, many of them talented locals.

Downstairs is the exclusive home of Willie Wildlife Sculptures with their signature bronze birdbaths and freestanding sculptures.

Upstairs each month we feature a Solo or Group Exhibition in the Middle Room Space with a guest or in-house artist along with our stable of over 30 represented artists work.

We are honoured to be part of the Geelong Regional Gallery Membership Benefits Program.

 

Current Exhibition

GARDEN DELIGHTS

New to the gallery , Jo Reitze presents “Garden Delights” an exhibition of paintings exploring the famous and stunning cool climate Cloudehill Gardens in the Dandenongs. Designed by Jeremy Francis, Cloudehill provides “a garden for all seasons”

Cloudehill has been a favourite subject of Jo’s for over a decade and this exhibition brings together a beautiful body of work created in all lights and all seasons.

The Opening will also feature author and Botanica Garden Tours founder Judy Vanrenen present for an interesting insight into Cloudehill, Chelsea Flower Show and Gardens and Tours that take in all this and more. Judy will also be signing copies of her three books .

Jeremy Francis may also be able to make an appearance with his book that showcases Cloudehill at it’s best.

Official Opening Saturday May 1st 2-4pm. All are welcome to meet the artist Jo Reitze, and author Judy Vanrenen.  Will Wilson will also be there at 2pm for an informative Q&A. 

Exhibition runs from April 30th to the end of May.

MEMORY POOL

Join the Hive’s Margaret Delahunty Spencer with long time artistic collaborator sculptor Mary van den Broek as they open MEMORY POOL on the Saturday April 3rd 2-4pm over Easter.

Be inspired by an interpretation in both paintings and bronze & steel sculptures of an exploration of cherished childhood memories and treasured times together, with the sage understanding that nothing can be taken for granted in the current climate.

The Exhibition runs until April 26th.

INWARD BOUND

We introduce paintings from new emerging artist Rachel King  of Warrnambool and a group exhibition of ceramics featuring our favourites Karen Steenbergen and Kirsty Manger, alongside the beautiful raku works of Ri Van Veen and the organic stoneware of emerging local potter Alice Morgan of Barwon Heads.

This Exhibition will Open on Saturday 6th March 2-4pm and run from March 5th -29th. The artists will be present for a safe, relaxed flow though event for the Opening and again during Geelong Design Week.

A BRUSH WITH BIRDS

The Hive Gallery was transformed.

A life of observing from the wild exhibited in illustrations and paintings as depicted in his newest book, “A Brush with Birds” . This follows the journey of internationally renowned Environmental Artist and Ornithologist Richard Weatherly OAM who has worked as a naturalist across six continents, documenting and celebrating our unique environment.

Renowned sculptor Lucy McEachern launched her latest bronze sculpture, the Lotus Bird, and exhibited a significant selection of her works.

From October 31st until December 13th with a Book Signing on November 21st.  Richard is kindly available most open days to continue to sign books at the gallery and discuss his works.
