MEMORY POOL

‘Memory Pool’ is a show that issues the viewers an open-hearted invitation to the richly imagined world of artists MARY VAN DEN BROEK & MARGARET DELAHUNTY SPENCER.

Both these artists have used the recent time of restrictions to revisit, reflect and renew memories stored and cherished, and appreciate a time of introspection.

Van den Broek began her career as an occupational therapist, then completed her Masters of fine Art in 2014. Her arts practice spans 21 years and tends towards sculptural forms. It is inspired by her family, and like Delahunty Spencer her early life growing up on farms, surrounded by their many siblings. Margaret Delahunty Spencer has a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Ballarat University and is a represented at The Hive Gallery. Her paintings for this show were inspired by her family and domestic surrounds, with each work becoming a sounding device for the exploration of self. Both artists have had many successful collaborative exhibitions in the past, both locally in Ballarat and in Melbourne, but it is the first time they unite at “The Hive Gallery”.

Although van den Broek and Delahunty Spencer explore the theme ‘Memory Pool’ through different artistic lenses, they achieve a unity that brings warmth and lightness to the subject, whilst acknowledging the need for a contemplative search for the deeper truths in all our memories.
